GIS Desktop Basics  - $350
eGIS Associates Developed Course

Course Overview:
This one day course provides the foundation for understanding GIS, what it can do, and how others are using it.  Students learn the basic functions of a GIS, GIS Terminology, and why GIS is powerful tool for data analysis, retrieval and visualization.  In course exercises, students work with ArcMap, an application within ArcGIS Desktop, to visualize geographic data, create maps, query a GIS database, and perform spatial analysis.

Course Goals
* Explain what a GIS is and what it can do.
* Displaying map data using symbology and labels
* Create GIS maps in ArcMap.
* Access data using ArcMap
* Query a GIS data

Prerequisites and recommendations
Students should know how to use Windows-based software for basic file management and browsing.

Introduction to Model Builder - $350

Course Overview:
Geoprocessing is an essential aspect of GIS that provides the ability to analyze and process geographic data. Geoprocessing tools can be accessed in ArcGIS via ArcToolbox, Model Builder, or Python scripts. Model Builder allows automation and documentation of analysis workflows and processes.

ModelBuilder provides a graphical modeling framework for designing and implementing geoprocessing models that can include system tools, scripts, models, and data. This one day class introduces student to ModelBuilder and how it can be used to create automated routines and workflows.

* Creating Models using Model Builder
* Creating Custom Tool help

* Setting Parameters in a Model
* Working with Intermediate data
* Adding Results to Your Display

Prerequisites and recommendations
One year of experience using ArcGIS Desktop to create maps and perform analysis is recommended. No programming or scripting experience required.

About the Instructor

The classes are taught by Tripp Corbin, a GIS Certified Professional and an Esri Certified Desktop Associate. Tripp has over 20 years of experience in GIS and Mapping. During those 20 years, he has worked in many aspects of GIS from field data collection and data creation to project management and client support. Tripp is familiar with many of the most common GIS and mapping software packages including ArcGIS, ArcView GIS, ArcInfo(r), ArcIMS(r), AutoCAD(r), Autodesk Map(r), MapGuide(r), and Microstation(r).
