GIS TECHNICIAN

 

General Statement of Duties: Extracts, manipulates and maintains land
records information on Geographic Information System (GIS) using ESRI ArcGIS
specialized software. Enters metes and bounds in the cadastral base map to
update property ownership records initiated by the recording of legal
documents; resolves discrepancies in data with Tax Office, surveyor and/or
others to ensure accurate land records information. Amends cadastral data to
reconcile with surveys and deed descriptions, adding road right-of-ways,
dimensions of parcels, easements, miscellaneous notations, etc. Utilizes
coordinate geometry to make changes and additions; enters coding for
parcels, tracts and new subdivisions and other real property from deed
descriptions; annotates with pin parcel numbers to match tax information,
and files system changes for quick reference. Digitizes information; enters
numbers and codes and defines cross hairs and coordinates; registers map in
GIS and to the digital table; follows menu to enter codes; verifies
completed maps; tags the map; creates files for each update; etc. Designs
and creates custom maps; searches information as requested by County
departments, property owners, etc.; enters coding required to create maps
uses plotter to print and copy GIS and tax maps. Assists staff and public in
utilizing GIS system - assist county personnel, GIS users, professionals,
community and general public in the proper use of the GIS system in locating
and acquiring cadastral information and interpreting digital maps and other
records. Assists with planning for future upgrades and improvements to the
GIS system. 

 

Desirable education and experience: Graduation from a community college with
an Associate's Degree in geography or related field with specialized mapping
courses or GIS certification and some related GIS mapping experience; or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Starting salary:  Grade 65- $31,951
