shrug-l: Learning ArcGIS Pro and Programming ArcGIS with Python: Intro classes this month in Daphne AL

This month, I will be conducting two GIS classes over in Daphne Alabama.
Daphne is a suburb of Mobile. These classes provide a great opportunity to
extend your GIS skills. Come learn about Esri's newest desktop GIS
application ArcGIS Pro. Explore its new interface and functionality. You can
also learn how to begin using python with ArcGIS to automate processes. More
information about each class is below.  

 

Learning ArcGIS Pro: Fundamentals - March 23-22

ArcGIS Pro is Esri's newest desktop GIS application with powerful tools for
visualizing, maintaining, and analyzing data. ArcGIS Pro makes use of the
modern ribbon interface and 64-bit processing to increase the speed and
efficiency of using GIS. It allows users to create amazing maps in both 2D
and 3D quickly and easily.

 

This 2-day course will teach both existing ArcGIS for Desktop users and
those new to GIS how they can use ArcGIS Pro to create 2D and 3D maps using
ArcGIS Pro. Students will learn terminology associated with ArcGIS Pro and
GIS in general. They will gain an understanding of ArcGIS Pro projects and
how to manage them.

1.       Introduction to ArcGIS Pro

2.       Using the ArcGIS Pro ribbon interface

3.       Creating and managing projects

4.       Creating 2D and 3D maps

5.       Creating Map Layouts

 

Software used: ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online

 

Prerequisites & Requirements

 

Though ITRE will provide computers and software for the Students to use
during class, Students will need to provide their own ArcGIS Pro license.
This license will need to be accessible from a web connection. This should
be verified prior to the start of class.

Programming ArcGIS with Python: Introduction - March 21-22

Esri has adopt Python as the primary scripting language for the ArcGIS
Platform. With each new release of ArcGIS, Esri expands the capabilities of
Python via the ArcPy module. So what was once strictly used to create basic
automation scripts can now be used to create custom powerful Add-in
extensions which can add new functionality to ArcGIS.

 

In this course, you will learn beginning level programming skills to needed
to begin creating Python scripts for Esri's ArcGIS platform. Some of the
skills you will learn include: how to access the ArcPy module, using the
Python Window and IDLE to create scripts, and some fundamental methods for
manipulating layers within a map using Python scripts.

3.       Managing Map Documents and Layers with Python

Standard & Advanced

 

Prerequisites and Recommendations

This course does require some experience using ArcGIS for Desktop. No
previous experience with python or programming is required.

Both classes maybe used as education points toward getting or maintaining
the GISP certification from the GIS Certification Institute
