All ArcGIS Desktop users should start creating a migration plan to ArcGIS Pro. There is no need to wait to start to use ArcGIS Pro. It runs side-by-side with ArcMap. You can start using it now by importing an existing MXD.
Some great reasons to go Pro:
* Tasks - these are very helpful and can help enforce standard operating procedures, increase efficiency, and improve QA/QC http://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/tasks/whatistask.htm
* 3D GIS - you can now automatically generate a 3D base map, including buildings and trees, from LiDAR, using a set of tasks in ArcGIS Pro http://solutions.arcgis.com/local-government/help/local-government-scenes/
* Solution Deployment Tools - this ArcGIS Pro plugin allows automated deployment of ArcGIS Solutions which increases efficiency while reducing risk http://solutions.arcgis.com/shared/help/deployment-tool/
Product Life Cycle shows ArcMap 10.5 supported until 2022:
