Job Summary: Under direction, develops and maintains Geographic Information System (GIS) data resources for public access. Assists with data collection with GPS and field collection with ArcPad or ArcGIS collector. Digitizes, creates, maintains, displays and updates GIS databases, geodatabases, and linkages to various GIS databases. Produces accurate maps and other representations of data for public use and field work activity. Ensures data accuracy by going out in the field to resolve conflicts. Records and documents details of map updates, additions or deletions. Provides GIS technical support to GIS users, specialists, vendors, and external entities. Assists in the development of strategies for ongoing GIS data maintenance. Performs advanced, technical GIS analysis functions. Assists with management of subdivision parcel data for inclusion in the parcel enterprise GIS database. Performs directly related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Drafting, GIS or related field; and two years’ experience in automated mapping and civil engineering; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Must possess knowledge of GPS equipment and surveying techniques and terminology. Must possess knowledge of recording and tax procedures. Must possess knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of drafting and design. Must possess knowledge of basic mathematics, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to make accurate and legible drawings in relation to drafting and design and to efficiently operate the GIS ArcGIS and/or computer-aided drafting platforms. Ability to research and retrieve information from maps, plats, deeds and other public documents. Ability to accomplish field work.

Note: During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
