Just three months from now, the second Rocket
City Geospatial
Conference will convene and in just three weeks, on August
31st, the
deadline for submitting a presentation to the event will pass. So,
it
is time to start getting ready now. Let me tell you why this
year’s
event will be even better than last year’s inaugural
conference:

1. Keynoting the event will be Mr. Jack Dangermond,
president of ESRI,
an individual who needs little introduction – best of all,
he will be
speaking on November 19th, GIS Day, an event he helped to
found.
2. In 2008, the Alabama GIS Symposium will be co-located with
Rocket
City Geospatial in a combined event. With travel limited by
gasoline
prices, this event is a very cost beneficial way to meet with many
from
around Alabama and the region, from both commercial and
academic
disciplines.
3. Workshops will be available for continuing
education credits. ESRI,
Intergraph, Autodesk, the US Space and Rocket Center
and the USGS will
be providing workshops.
4. The exhibition will be
the largest GIS showcase in the southeast
this year. Assembled in a single
location, GIS technology companies
will be present so that you can find the
latest information about
products and solutions.
5. Jobs Board –
We’ll have a jobs board to match job seekers with
employers.

6.
Student Poster Contest – We’ll have judges to determine the
winning poster
submitted by GIS students from around the region. Prizes
will be awarded.
Please send your 250 word abstract about our poster to
Nora.Parker@directionsmag.com. We
will be sending specific instructions
at a later time to all who submit
presentations.

So, for those of you who would like to participate as a
speaker or
student contributor to the event, please see more details on
our
conference website at:
<FONT
