color:#1F497D'>Yes there are several ways to bring in CAD data so that the
attributes are maintained in the GIS. A lot will depend on the software being
used by the Surveyor. To be successful, you first need to understand the DWG
format. We have an article posted on our website on the GIS Links page which
explains many of the ins and outs of the DWG format which should help you out.
Using things like the layer name and blocks can make it easy to import
attributes. There are other ways data can be stored in a DWG such as
object data which can be exported from higher versions of CAD such as Civil 3D
and Map3D. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

maintaining attribute information across platforms? If the intended
product is to convert infrastructure information of a parcel, collected by
traditional survey, into a GIS inventory of that parcel's infrastructure, is
there a good way to set up the surveyor's data collection such that the data
they provide will be easily incorporated into a geodatabase, or does this
process involve a lot of manual data entry of attributes, to assign all the CAD
lines, polygons, and points with the appropriate "information"
associated with each feature, like I fear it might?</span><o:p></o:p></p>
