ACS samples monthly and reports data annually as either single year estimates for areas of 65,000 or more, 3-year estimates for areas of 20,000 or more, and 5-year estimates to the census tract and block group level. The ACS estimates are published with margins of error at 90% degree of confidence.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>These margins of error present problems when creating maps of the ACS data.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>George Mason University's Dept. of Geography and GeoInformation Science has developed a mapping extension that makes it possible to incorporate information on statistical uncertainty into maps featuring ACS estimates.
