DEP SPONSORS GREEN LODGING INDUSTRY WORKSHOPS
--Environmentally-friendly hotels conserve resources, save money and attract
TALLAHASSEE - The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is sponsoring
a variety of workshops on the Florida Green Lodging Program throughout the
month of May. The workshops will discuss topics such as indoor air quality,
water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and the Green Lodging
"Green Lodges are leaders in their industry," said DEP Secretary Colleen M.
Castille. "Their environmental commitment serves as an example and a
challenge to other hotels to adopt innovative 'green' practices, conserve
resources and save money."
Launched in March 2004, the Florida Green Lodging Certification Program
establishes environmental guidelines for hotels and motels to conserve
natural resources and prevent pollution. As reward for designation, Florida
recommends Green Lodges to companies and trade organizations seeking
environmentally-conscious lodging and convention facilities.
The following Green Lodging workshops will take place during May:
* Florida Green Lodging Workshop: May 2, 2006, 9:00 a.m., Tampa
Workshop provides information on the Green Lodging Program and criteria, as
well as water conservation, energy efficiency and waste reduction.
Presentation will also include a tour of a Green Lodging facility. To

* Improving Indoor Air Quality and Energy Efficiency in Hotels and
Public Buildings in Florida, May 3, 2006, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Tampa
Workshop provides an overview of indoor air quality and energy efficiency for
hotels and public buildings in humid climates. To register, visit
* Florida Green Lodging Workshop, May 10, 2006, 9:00 a.m., Ft. Myers
Workshop is being held in conjunction with the Society for Ethical Ecotourism
in Southwest Florida and will discuss the Green Lodging Program and criteria,
water conservation, energy efficiency and waste reduction. Presentation will
also include a tour of the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa,
