Subject: Biodiesel Session--good idea RE: NAHMMA CONFERENCE 2009

Hi Everybody-
I think biodiesel/biofuel is a good and timely topic.
DEP is about to finalize some guidance on biofuels ("Recommendations for
Regulating Fat, Oil and Grease Processing and Biofuel Production Facilities
in Florida"). I will send it out when it is signed my upper management. In
the meantime here are two good documents on the subject--one from Ohio
(attached) and one from New Hampshire at:
http://des.nh.gov/organization/commissioner/pip/factsheets/co/documents/co-16
.pdf

Thanks for all the great work you all do.
Raoul

I am running into the same issues with the by-products which is why I think
Biodiesel will make for a good session at the conference. Topics should
include methods to make it, manage it, and dispose of its by-products. I
have volunteered to be the lead moderator for the HHW sessions - so I will
jump on the opportunity to ask if anyone would like to volunteer to moderate
this session if we can get it on the schedule? Does anyone have any
suggestions on speakers that could cover the topics above? With fuel prices
dropping faster than contestants at the haz olympics, this issue may be
diminishing, however I don't see it going away and I think it would be good
information.

We have dealt with and had a number of Biodiesel residential complaint /
discharge incidents, illegal dumping, and New Industrial Bio Diesel
Facilities.

Yes, I have pictures :)

Just inspected a new facility yesterday at Research Complex in Gainesville.

We are also in process of starting a County Team for Bio Diesel issues
including Fire Marshal, Environmental, Petroleum, Codes and producing a BMP
to educate on Residential / Commercial Bio Diesel Issues.

Should have some good info by 09 Conference.

Sincerely,

We accept the cooking oil at our HHW Center, save it and allow the local
enthusiasts here in Alachua County take it to produce their own bio diesel.
The one issue we are experiencing is the increasing quantity of glycerin
byproduct, from my understanding it is not pure enough for the manufacture of
soap.

Especially the homemade biodiesel or whatever they are concocting at their
homes. Seems those who don't want to make it anymore are having difficulties
disposing of it or dumping it in the woods. Do the HHW's take this?
Especially when it comes in a 55 gallon drum?
