Each New Year brings new opportunities and this year has brought me an
exciting one.

During the holidays my father asked me to take over the family electrical
contracting business. I grew up with this company: counting light fixtures,
washing trucks, bookkeeping, even conducting safety and environmental audits
after college. It is because of my familiarity with the business and family
history that I decided to join Wiregrass Electric. My last day with the
Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will be January 30,
2009.

The environmental experiences and knowledge I gained with DEP will prove
beneficial as I move forward in my new career. Sustainability, product
stewardship, pollution prevention, and of course alternative energy will
never be far from my mind. I hope that through managing my own company I will
continue to positively influence the environment.

My only hesitation in making this decision is leaving behind the Household
Hazardous Waste family that so warmly welcomed me nine years ago. Individuals
from DEP, municipal solid waste programs, the North American Hazardous
Materials Management Association and the Product Stewardship Institute make
up this family. They have shown me that dedication, integrity, cooperation
and creativity are values that can better our world. I am privileged to have
worked with such professional and passionate people. Thank you.

Best wishes to you and yours in 2009 and beyond!
Irene
