I am forwarding Jerry's email to everyone on the listserv in hopes that you can provide additional information to this discussion (see Jerry's email below). Any suggestions or comments that you can add will be helpful to everyone. This issue hits both HHW and the SQG Program. Thanks. Glen

I signed on with PSI and the Paint Product Stewardship Institute program it it's early years and have been working for some time (with little success) to stem the flow of waste paint in Sarasota County. An issue with painters and painting contractors is that very few have commercial addresses. Most of them operate from their residence, making it virtually impossible/impractical to conduct an inspection. Lately we've seen another manifestation of the sour economy with lenders hiring contractors to clean out foreclosed properties, some of which had been painters properties.
All this aside, I am wondering how, or if, other counties in Florida are addressing paint. I see Florida is a full member of PSI, and St. Johns County and Sarasota County are affiliate counties, but no one else seems to be involved.
Do you have any information or reports on how counties statewide are dealing with waste paint?
