BACKGROUND

On January 27th, Mathy Stanislaus (OSWER Assistant Administrator), Bob Perciacepe (EPA Deputy Administrator), Regional Administrators, and representatives from states and various EPA offices attended the Sustainable Materials Management Summit. These senior leaders met to identify specific national approaches for operationalizing sustainable materials management, identify what changes may be needed in how EPA currently does business in order to make the shift to sustainable materials management, and determine some key next steps to help EPA achieve national goals. As follow-up to the summit, Headquarters-Regional workgroups were charged with defining specific actions that EPA can take to produce measureable results in the next year. Specific sustainable materials management efforts will be coordinated with other Agency-wide sustainability efforts such as sustainable products and pollution prevention. This webinar provides an opportunity for EPA and the states to discuss the next steps on sustainable materials management.
