Hello everyone!
I was wondering if anyone could answer the following questions about dental facilities:
I found the following Dental BMP's brochure for dental amalgam http://www.dep.state.fl.us/waste/quick_topics/publications/shw/mercury/AmalgamBMPsBrochure.pdf
I have observed that most dental offices are disposing of amalgam waste from their Vac Trap systems and extracted teeth containing amalgam in their red boxes which is meant for bio-hazard waste. Some segregate them and dispose of them separately. But, this is not the majority. I am sure these wastes are somewhat comingled with bio-waste which is why most dentists manage it as such. However, what do you see happening at your own county programs? What do you see the dentists do with their amalgam waste from their vac traps and extracted teeth? If you are familiar with the BMPs, do you interpret these as voluntary or a requirement? Let me know if any county programs are inspecting this industry and their related wastes?
Thanks!
