Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in environmental or natural science, civil or environmental engineering, geology, hydrology or related field and three years progressively responsible professional environmental related experience of which one year must be supervisory; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience. A valid State of Florida Driver's License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy # 6-7; Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed prior to employment. If in the past 24-month period, the record shows more than 3 moving traffic violations, and/or a conviction/pending charge for driving under the influence, the minimum qualifications are not met for the position. Applicants within six months of meeting the education/experience requirement may be considered for trainee status. This position is a professional position to manage EPD's Hazardous Materials program and partial implementation of the county wide water quality code. The selected candidate will supervise 2-4 employees and requires a minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience. This position will be responsible for budgeting, hiring, and procurement processes. This position requires extensive knowledge of hazardous materials management, hazardous waste regulations and site rehabilitation and cleanup practices. This position requires experience with developing, implementing, and enforcing environmental codes. This position must have a minimum of 2 years of professional geologic, geotechnical, or hydrogeologic experience. Registration as a Florida Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) is preferred. Training through the Florida Association of Codes Enforcement (or equivalent) and experience with citations, Codes Enforcement Boards, and/or a Special Magistrate process is preferred. This position may assist with obtaining and managing grant funded projects. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
