and case studies that detail alternative chemicals and/or processes available

The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced an upcoming opportunity for small
businesses (500 employees or less) to submit grant applications in response to
its annual Phase I Funding Opportunity Announcement for the Small Business
Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR)
programs. Approximately $38 Million will be reserved for the Phase I
competition, which will result in approximately 380 Phase I awards in amounts
up to $100,000 each. Technical areas in which applications are sought include,
but are not limited to, carbon cycle measurements of the atmosphere and the
biosphere, wind energy reliability and cost reduction, solar energy, hydrogen
delivery and production, hybrid electric vehicles with a special focus on
plug-in hybrids, cellulosic biomass to high-value products, and alternative
feedstocks to chemicals. The Funding Opportunity Announcement will be published
