The UMaine Center on Aging in partnership with the Maine Benzodiazepine
Study Group, in cooperation with Cary Medical Center, and with support
from the American Pharmacists Association and the Bingham Group, is
pleased to announce the opening of registration for our fall conference
entitled: "Improving Patient Safety through Informed Medication
Prescribing and Disposal Practices." This event marks the 5th Annual
Maine Benzodiazepine Study Group Conference & 4th Annual Unused Drug
Return Conference. 

This international gathering of clinicians, researchers, policy makers,
drug enforcement officials, environmentalists, and healthcare providers
is being held at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland, Maine on
October 31 & November 1st.
Nationally and internationally recognized experts will analyze a wide
range of issues surrounding prescribing trends, and prescription drug
misuse and abuse. Cutting edge approaches to disposing of unused and
expired medications will be showcased and the most current policy and
legislative strategies for reducing prescription drug accumulation in
the community highlighted. This conference will also provide the first
opportunity for a North American audience to review the Athens
Declaration, an international declaration addressing unused consumer
medications for the betterment of the health of the environment and
patients world wide.
