Doug,

=20

The ArcIMS developers at DEP BIS-GIS have created an ArcIMS service that
serves image data stored in their ArcSDE service. The ArcIMS service
renders high-resolution imagery very quickly on the ArcMap display, even
at a statewide extent.

=20

If you only need the aerials for display and not analysis, this could be
a good solution.

Subject: shrug-l: Is there a limit (# or size) of raster images that can
be added into an MXD in ArcMap 9.0?

=20

Is there a restriction on the number of raster images that ArcMap 9.0
can handle? I added about 10 Quads worth of aerials (about 40
Quarter-quads at approx. 7MB each) and received the following Error:
Instruction at "0x76ff4b5a" referenced memory at "0x00000004" The memory
could not be "read". The application then shut down with the standard
ArcMap.exe has generated errors and will shut down message. =20

There was nothing else on the map; only aerials (.jp2 and .ecw format).
I was adding that many aerials in response to a colleague encountering
this problem and asking me if I'd ever seen it. I had never put that
may aerials on one MXD, so I just started adding and adding until it
crashed, and I was able to duplicate the error.

Has anyone ever seen this, and if so, do you know of anything that can
be done to use a large number of high quality aerials in one MXD?

Thanks for the assistance.=20
