GIS and ArcIMS Users,

It appears that EPIC31 is now up and stable and serving both ESRI =
licenses
and ArcSDE layers. Below is an email from the Systems Section detailing =
the
actions taken to resolve the problem. The bottom line appears to be a =
bad
DIMM (memory module).

We will be keeping a close eye on EPIC31 throughout the day to ensure
everything is back to normal.

We are sorry that this hardware issue cause a major disruption.

The following was done to the GS160:

- replaced power modules on partition 2 (epic31)
- replaced cpu 0 on partition 2
- swapped memory modules
- ran hardware tests from boot prompt level

At this point, it was brought up, and memory tests were run. It crashed
after less than 30 minutes. =20

- upgraded firmware
- received call from HP indicating that earlier crash dumps showed an =
error
on a particular DIMM; replaced that DIMM
- ran hardware tests from boot prompt level. New DIMM failed.
- replaced DIMM again
- ran hardware tests from boot prompt level. Passed.

At this point, it was brought up, and memory tests were run. After 60
minutes of testing, both sides were still up and stable.

The problem seems to have been a bad DIMM, but HP is keeping the call =
number
open for now. Leslie plans to be in early.
