GIS Users,
Please let me apologize for the problems you may have been experiencing
accessing=20
ArcSDE layers. We have been bringing up a number of ArcIMS intranet and
Internet=20
mapping sites, which have been consuming many server and Oracle =
processes.
The result=20
has been that some users have not been able to get a free server or =
Oracle
process needed=20
to get to ArcSDE services.
Here's what we are doing to solve the problem. =20
* The Systems group is increasing the number of processes allowed at the
operating=20
systems level on EPIC31, the ArcSDE server. =20
* The DBA group has been working with us to try to better tune Oracle =
for
more users. =20
* We have been tuning ArcSDE to better handle more users.
* We are asking ArcIMS developers to release un-needed ArcSDE =
connections so
other=20
users can use the freed processes.
* We are asking GIS users to close ArcView and ArcGIS when not actively =
in
use.
* If we cannot provide the GIS user community with the performance that =
we
have=20
provided in the past, we will use GISSUN5 as an ArcSDE server for =
ArcIMS.
This will=20
eliminate the competition between ArcIMS and all the other GIS clients.
Again, we apologize for the service disruptions some of you may have
experienced. We=20
ask that you bear with us as we try to integrate ArcIMS mapping in =
support of
our agency=20
mission. We believe that ArcIMS will become an integral part of our =
business
process=20
and that ultimately it will become the foundation for complete spatial
integration of our=20
data.
Thanks,
-Linc
