GIS Users,
For those wishing to use the US National Grid coordinate system (especially
with coordination efforts during hurricane season), we have added USNG
support to MapDirect http://ca.dep.state.fl.us/imf :
1) While in Mapdirect, pick the "Place text on Map" button under the red
toolbox. Click on the map, and the US National Grid coordinate (at that
point) will be returned in the Analysis Point Tool window.
2) Additionally, the US National Grid overlay layer can be turned on by
going to the Layers tab -> Overlay Layers -> Other -> "US National Grid
(100km)".
In ArcGIS Desktop, you can use the Identify tool to get USNG coordinates for
a particular spot on the map:
1) Pick the identify tool and then click a spot on the map.
2) In the Identify window, click the down arrow at the end of the
Location box and select U.S. National Grid on the bottom of the list.
