I just spoke with Marion of the DBA's.  She informs me that This database
availability appears to be a hardware issue and the that technician is on
site.
 
When in doubt, do the right thing

Unless you have been updated by the DBA's since I talked to you, synch is
still down due to the database being down.  Please send a FIRST Alert to all
users stating this and that we will notify them when it comes back online.
