Pharma group,
We're holding our 23rd annual EPA region 6 Pretreatment Workshop
in Shreveport, LA 8/13 thru 8/16. These workshops have been a
tremendous success in keeping our fellow city pretreatment
coordinators/wastewater officials up-to-date on current and emerging
issues.
Do any of you have in mind a great PPCP motivational speaker in
mind that is in the neighborhood of Shreveport that I could contact
requesting his/her speaking presence? I'd love to get Dr. Gressitt,
Christian Daughton or Ms. Tenace out here but, that's probably not
possible (is it?). Travel reimbursement may be available.
Issues of most interest, I think, to the attendees would be the
national avg non-adherence rate (~50%?), health care annual $$ wasted,
estimates of lbs of pharmas presently being disposed into their w.w.
collection systems, ANY news on fate and transport, sub-lethal toxicity
(growth, reproduction, etc. failures)....well, just about all the topics
that have been discussed on this listserve rolled into one dynamic,
riveting 45 minute oratory. We have numerous city coordinators that
could help facilitate gathering site specific information adding to the
"National Unused Pharmaceutical Registry".
I've seen numerous conferences and seminars being held around
the country on this issue so I know there's GOT to be someone out there
that wouldn't mind furthering the cause in this EPA region.
If any of you can think of such a knowledgeable speaker, please
give this state coordinator a contact name and info.
We're expecting around 300+ attendees which to date, only have
been given a "tease" on what's going on nationwide with this issue.
This office fears this 5 state region might be in an information vacuum.
Thank you in advance,
Allen Gilliam
