I enjoyed the article tremendously because Dr. Len Kaye, director for the
Center on Aging, U of Maine, was mentioned. My foundation is working
directly with Drs. Kaye and Stevan Gressitt on a pilot study in Maine
(mentioned in the same article) to allow consumers (patients) mail back
their unwanted meds for destruction. We hope to promote safe and legal
collection of unused and expired medicines (UEM) and properly destroy them
by incineration, primarily for environmental and safety reasons.
This article really supports our pilot study and direction Maine is pursuing
toward a systematic program to address UEM in our communities.

Interesting article about pharmaceutical waste to energy, drug take-backs,
recalls and the use of the existing reverse distribution system that links
pharmacies to disposal of expired meds.
