Another question is what does this excreted material do to drinking water? It is not good to do this stuff to the fishes and frogs and all but................
It is common to allow nitrate loading (increases in nitrate from background levels) from drain fields into well head protection areas. The question then becomes, with the addition of the nitrate, what else is there? I used to want to test my former neighborhood's water for caffeine but as a member of the board of directors on the water company, I felt the fishing expedition was an issue best avoided. The water supply was legal. All testing including extra testing was being done to comply with federal laws.
Besides, I have since learned that caffeine is not a good tracer.

Adding that information in would make a great additional column. Stevan Gressitt

So if we look at this list:>
> Excretion Percentages - Top 10 US Pharmaceuticals in 2003 by Sales
> Lipitor - cholesterol reduction - < 2% excreted
> Zocor - cholesterol reduction - < 0.5% excreted
> Prevacid - ulcers - < 1% excreted
> Procrit - anemia - < 5% excreted
> Zyprexa - antipsychotic - 7% excreted
> Epogen - anemia - < 5% excreted
> Nexium - acid reflux - < 1% excreted
> Zoloft - antidepressant - 14% excreted
> Celebrex - anti-inflammatory - < 3% excreted
> Neurontin - antiseizure - 100% excreted
> Leading OTC drug: Ibuprofen - 10% excreted
What happens to these drugs in a typical municipal waste water treatment plant(WWTP)?
Does anyone have numbers for the birth control/hormone materials? (top ten prescriptions,% excreted, reduction by WWTP)???
