Pharmaceuticals
The PPU has received an EPA grant to evaluate drug disposal alternatives and
prevent drug flushing in order to reduce exposures to unwanted
pharmaceuticals.
The NYS DEC PPU has been participating in an Agency-wide pharmaceuticals
workgroup. Accomplishments to date include: * two stakeholder meetings *
launching of a Don't Flush Campaign featuring development of web materials
and poster that can be downloaded for use at pharmacies and other businesses
selling drugs * conducting a pilot pharmaceuticals collection event at NYS
DEC headquarters in December 2008, which collected approximately 100 pounds
of drugs * development of a template for conducting pharmaceutical events The
Northeast A & P2 Roundtable is a member of the Pollution Prevention Resource
Exchange, P2Rx, a national network of regional P2 information centers linked
together to facilitate information retrieval from experts around the country.
* utilizing the template to plan a second pilot pharmaceutical collection
event in conjunction with Otsego County, New York
