Always remember folks – Just because something is a hazard and a waste doesn’t mean it’s a hazardous waste

I think that’s an original I came up with ca. 1992. Eric Jorgensen at USU can verify the circumstances. Beer and the aftermath of a visit from regulatory idiots were definitely involved. As I recall the incident involved a proposed fine for a zero in our EPAID number “impinging upon the vertical tic-mark of a Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest causing it to appear to be the letter “Q” thus making the identification number invalid” The proposed fine was $5,000. The same genius proposed another $5,000 fine for a latex paint bucket he could measure more than 1” of liquid residue in. Of course, that was after he tilted it 45 degrees to the side and allowed the liquid to pool in the bottom edge. Nevermind the content was well under 3% of capacity.

Rookie regulators…

Merde!

Fred

we have a winner with arsenic
and fred thank you for the poke in the eye. I do understand rcra and it amazes me that we can ignore a chemical because an agency with 17,000 employees and an 8.5 billion dollar budget has no common sense.
my eye still hurts and I think I should put some trisenox in it, at least it is not regulated except for the non metallic arsenic after I use it

Fred,
Recently I had a discussion with folks at DOE. Selenium is "hazardous waste" so I asked what was the scoop on Selsun Blue etc. It is fine for an individual to have bottles of it but if a community event collects them then it is hazardous. There is a lot that is confusing.
