[Pharmwaste] RE: Human Albumin

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. The majority of the responses support Biohazardous Waste disposal.

Florida’s definition of infectious waste; (http://www.hercenter.org/rmw/fl-rmw.cfm): "Bulk human blood, blood products, bulk body fluids or other potentially infectious material (OPIM- as defined by OSHA): Definition: bulk waste human blood, human blood components or products derived from blood including serum, plasma and other blood components,"

The package insert, thought it says the product is a sterile solution, includes the following Warning: …is made from human plasma. Products made from human plasma may contain infectious agents, such as viruses, and theoretically, the CJD agent that can cause disease….such products can still potentially transmit disease….

These are glass bottles, so my recommendation is going to be that if there is any solution remaining in the container, they should be discarded in the red box/biohazardous waste sharps safe container.
