S.C. was not among my list of states not in compliance with the DEA take back rule [AK, CT, HI, MO, MS, & NH] because the DEA website lists pharmacies and clinics in S.C. that are registered. Apparently, some potential registered collectors were excluded.

The S.C. House has passed a bill (introduced by a republican) to bring them into full compliance with the DEC rule. The Senate still has to act. http://www.scstatehouse.gov/billsearch.php?billnumbers=3817

A BILL TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 44-53-362 SO AS TO ALLOW PHARMACIES AND OTHER ENTITIES TO REGISTER AS A COLLECTOR TO RECEIVE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES AS PART OF LAW ENFORCEMENT CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE TAKE-BACK EVENTS AND OPERATE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE MAIL-BACK PROGRAMS AND TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL TO FACILITATE AND ENCOURAGE REGISTRATION AND PARTICIPATION.
