All, Can y'all help a fellow out of a deep funk? The issue is tab =
delimited
GPS files saved as .txt files. I download the files from a Garmin =
GPSmap168S
using Garmin's Mapsource, which exports the .txt file. My process is to =
open
in Excel; filter, format, apply decimal degree formulas... and export to =
.dbf
files for import to ArcGis 8.3. =20

In the past I have defined the Time stamp field as text when
importing to Excel, then it carries over to .dbf with the time info as =
human
readable text. However, sometimes I need to use the time stamp for =
charting,
filtering etc. Excel will not recognise the text field as a time =
value, so
I cannot use it as a chart variable, nor can I use it to categorise =
values in
ArcGis. Any ideas on how to have my cake and chart it too? Will gladly
summarise on list the best solutions. Cheers, =20
