Dear Colleague,

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) Optical Science Laboratory =
(OSL) has been responsible for providing calibration services for the =
airborne film mapping industry since 1973 and is considered to be the =
only certified analog film camera calibration capability in the United =
States. This work is considered critical to the national survey and =
must be continued by the USGS into the foreseeable future.=20

The photographic multi-collimator calibration process used in the OSL =
for determining of lens and camera coefficients relies on emulsion =
coated glass calibration plates. Currently, the USGS is struggling to =
obtain replacement glass plates, or a replacement film based product, to =
be used in the calibration process.=20

The USGS is seeking sources from which to procure glass plates with the =
proper emulsion coating. Any support information is considered very =
valuable, especially with respect to emergency suppliers of emulsion =
coated glass plates, or a facility that could recoat our current glass =
inventory. Related process ideas and recommendations are welcome.

The following URL provides additional information related to this =
process and the need for photogrammetric calibration plate replacement:=20

http://calval.cr.usgs.gov/GlassPlates.doc

Please contact the USGS point of contact below if you have any support =
information that you feel maybe helpful:
