Are you using HP plotters? If so, try the "Process Document ... in
computer" under the plotter properties>advanced tab.
This may help. Aslo, change the quality from "best" to "normal". It
also helps to streamline your data - reduce the size of the data through
clips, etc if you can.=20
=20
I have found that ArcGis does not do large plots that well. ESRI is
aware of the problem - this snippet came from one
of the user forums:

...And I agree with you completely that we need to work on printing.
Good news - we are! 9.0 is vastly improved over 8.3 and 9.1 will be even
better. At 9.0, I would also suggest trying ArcPress again - it's been
completely reengineered from top to bottom and is generally faster (I've
yet to find a map that prints faster through the Windows printer engine,
but you may find simplier, vector maps go faster through Windows or so
the programmers tell me).=20

9.0 and 9.1 encompass a complete overhaul of ArcMap's display and output
pipelines, a design we've been working on for several years and now have
approval. We now have full committment to get it done and in and solid.
9.0 has the reengineered ArcPress, completely rewritten export drivers
(and some new ones!) and improved Windows printer engine. 9.1 we will
see even more. So yes, we are working very hard on it.=20
=20
So there you have it - wait until 9.1 comes out!

I am currently using ArcMap 8.3 and I'm having problems printing
out large plots. I have a 3gb processor, 1gb DDR Ram, and a 256mb
graphic card. I am trying to print maps for my client, but I've not
been successful. The plot size is 36x36. I have printed maps that size
while using ArcView 3x, but found it difficult since migrating to ArcMap
8.3. It has become frustrating and I was wondering if anyone else has
experienced this and what the best solution is? Any input would be
greatly appreciated. Help!?!?!
