shrug-l: Troubleshoot projectors

I am having trouble displaying images on a projector. 
I am using a pavilion widescreen laptop.  When i
display the view through the projector, the image is
skewed making the frame narrow.  Is there a command to
display widescreen on the projector?  It's probably
something really simple but I haven't figured it out. 
I would appreciate any tips.
