shrug-l: ArcGIS symbology look up table and live-link ...

Hello,

 

Holiday greetings!

 

I have a couple questions about ArcGIS symbology look-up table and dynamic link to symbols.  It appears that there is no simple-straight forward way of using symbol look up table like the old way ArcPlot did.  In addition, once a symbol is chosen/assigned to a class type/category, the symbol specs (say colors, size, font, …) are imbedded (to the MXD?).  If a change is made to the symbol, the class has to be reassigned with the updated symbol.  Simply reopen the mxd is not going to work.  

 

Do I miss something here?
