shrug-l: X,Y,Z files

You can open these is ArcMap as an XY Event.  File must be comma delimited,
with a header row X,Y.

 

It will take quite a long time if your file is over half million points and
if your computer doesn't have much ram.  Every time you move in you data view
it will redraw so convert it to a shapefile if you're going to bring this in
more than one time.  

 

I prefer to use Surfer, it's much faster than ESRI products.
