Hi.
I just searched the SHRUG-L list concerning cross section technology
and saw the below thread "Extension for ArcGIS 9.1 to create cross
sections" started on June 21, 2006. I wanted to add to this thread
with the following quick note.
Steve and Tripp,
There is finally an extension/plugin that now easily enables ArcGIS
users to quickly generated cross sections in minutes. Users can have
one or more of the following "levels" of ArcGIS desktop to use
CrossView: ArcGIS ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo. In addition to
the standard "levels" of ArcGIS, users can also use the robust
information generated from both ArcGIS's Spatial Analyst and 3D
Analysts. However, you must have an appropriate ESRI surface dataset
(s) in an ArcMap document before CrossView can be used. Acceptable
surface datasets include ESRI GRIDs and TINs. (see
www.aprimesoftware.com)
Full disclosure... I am the Marketing Director for A-Prime Software,
but I would encourage all to check the software out for themselves
and see if this ArcGIS applications plugin is a compelling solution
for cross section projects. www.aprimesoftware.com/try
Best of Luck.
Matt

Steve,
I do not know of an ESRI extension that will generate Cross Sections
like you can with CADD. I checked into 3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst and
Survey Analyst but could not see any tools for generating cross
sections. There was a gentleman at SERUG that was demoing some tools
that will but they have not been released to the public. It is possible
an ESRI BP has developed an extension which can generate cross sections
but I do not know of one off the top of my head.

I need to find an extension that will allow my to create cross section
drawings in ArcGIS. It can be done easily in CADD, however, we have no
CADD designers in our office, and our subcontractor is too busy.
I need to find this "yesterday!!!"
