Has anyone set up ArcIMS on Win Server 2008 and IIS7?

I can't set up virtual directories as I did in the past.

I can only serve data if it's physically put under \inetpub\wwwroot

That's cumbersome.

"Web share" is gone from IIS7.

When I try to set up virtual websites exactly as I did in earlier
versions they do not work.

I've set up permissions exactly the same. I've even given "everyone"
read/execute permission - and no matter what I do, I get a 404 error.

It's not clear to me how one designates a directory as an
internet-accessible space, except by setting it up as a virtual
directory and adding Network and IIS_IUSR permissions. Again, that has
not worked on any directory not under ~wwwroot.

I did a direct copy of all data from the initial install to backup
drive, then to the new IIS install. This is baffling.

I had no trouble setting up ArcIMS under NT - through Winserver 2003. I
even had a primitive version of ArcView web service running on Unix in
1998.

I found that no one else on this campus has IIS7 running as a web
server. I don't think an ArcIMS install was a wise choice to test a
relatively new IIS, but I wasn't given a choice.

I'm not allowed to touch the install DVD's for WinServer. "Experts"
handle it, but their responsibility ends when the machine boots to the
new system.

For what it's worth, my entire install is on the C: drive. I learned
it's close to impossible to move the\Inetpub from C: to D: with IIS7.
It forces install on C:.

I have learned why "un-roling" IIS7 makes reinstall difficult - and I
solved that problem after days of searching the web.

Creating a simple virtual directory seems an insurmountable task now.
