Georgia Power has an opening for a GIS analyst (contract position) to
replace a vacancy. The preferred candidate should have at least two years of
experience working with GIS in an engineering consulting firm or its
equivalent. A preference will be given candidates with experience in CAD-GIS
data interoperability, ESRI ArcGIS server, mobile GIS, and/or Python
programming.

JOB SUMMARY:
The GIS Analyst is responsible for development, maintenance, technical, and
computer support of spatial data systems hardware and software and
production support as
needed by the Land Engineering Section (and the Land Dept as directed). As
member of the GIS team the position also provides overall support to
approximately 300 end users.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
Bachelor of Science degree in Geography, Surveying and Mapping, Geomatics,
Geographic Information Systems, Civil Engineering, Forestry, Computer
Systems, or other related field of study is required.
GIS Certification or ability to achieve it with approved, professional
organization is strongly preferred.
Detailed knowledge of ESRI's family of ArcGIS products, is a must.
Knowledge of ArcGIS, ArcSDE, ArcObjects, FME, ArcGIS Server, ERDAS Imagine,
AutoCad, general COGO and geometry, VB .NET, MS Access, Oracle, SQL Server,
design and implementation of geodatabase, projections and coordinate
systems, and electric utility systems is a plus.
Skills needed include: good oral and written communications, proficiency in
computer systems and applications, analytical/thinking skills, ability to
correlate maps, spatial visualization ability, project management, good
interpersonal skills, and good judgment skills.
Demonstration of Southern Style behaviors (Unquestionable Trust, Superior
Performance, and Total Commitment.)
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Specify major duties performed by the job and
% of time spent on duties.
1. Research, development, programming, and management of GIS tools,
applications, and interfaces of spatially referenced datasets in support of
Land Department missions and clients. (30%)
2. Manage, provide, maintain, and enhance access to hundreds of gigabytes
of spatial data as part of the company's Enterprise GIS solution. (20%)
3. Provide continuity/standards of all existing layers/themes of GIS data
to integrate with other company data and GIS systems. (10%)
4. Provide GIS data mining to provide answers to clients' questions for ad
hoc requests. (10%)
5. Serve leadership role in GIS activities in the Land Department. (10%)
6. Provide consultation, management, and assistance for all GIS/spatial
data related Land operations. (10%)
7. Evaluation, contracting, and handling work direction of outside
contractors for GIS development and data capture. (10%)
