shrug-l: Definition Query

I may have asked this before, but I'm hoping ArcGIS v10.1 has a better solution.

I have multiple sample collected from the same borehole, but at various depths.  How do I display only the location with the maximum concentration using a definition query?

Currently, I sort the symbols so the max color is visible on top.  The problem is, I want to label only the max.  Any suggestions?
