Jim,

Probably is the below issue.  ESRI sent this info out last week.  The only workaround that I see is to create the File Geodatabase(s) on your C: drive first then copy to the network.

If you have applied Microsoft hotfix roll-up KB 2775511<http://autobahn.esri.com/esri/etrack.aspx?DSN=b9ca57b2fbe8cb42458807853387983f6a0f6be5ccdab113&FORMID=40d1deb2ef07213490f70d8f652ed1a8&AUDID=1c6e34c9cafc4bdf9852e973d482db34&EMAILID=15a64d5b4598cd5915046cb4c50624756deb03f1b68e72a3&DECODE=1&INTID=57fa4c9b3b897ae137b24f8b95cfa6ae&URL=http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2775511> and created file geodatabases on a shared network location from a Windows 7 SP1 or a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 machine, your file geodatabases are unusable. You will see an error message referencing the item type when you create new datasets or items in a file geodatabase.

For example, the following message will appear when creating a new feature class:

"Failed to create feature class.
The item was not found. [ItemType:
{70737809-852C-4A03-9E22-2CECEA5B9BFA}]"

Cause
This issue is still under investigation.

Workaround
Esri is working on a patch to mitigate this issue. There are currently several workarounds.

Someone on the Colorado GIS Listserv just posted a similar problem. I don't remember if it was on a network drive or not. David Allen, the author of Getting to Know ArcGIS ModelBuilder, came back saying ArcGIS 10.1 version geodatabases seem to be having some issues. If you can take it back to an ArcGIS 10 version, it seems to work better. He based that on his personal experience.

Personally I have not had that issue. Usually if I have a problem writing to a Geodatabase closing ArcMap and ArcCatalog and then restarting them fixes the problem.

Hi All,

Has anyone experience recent issues with ArcGIS while creating and editing new data on a network file system?  Issues such as the following errors when trying to create new data or view an attribute table while editing data.  These errors only occur with data on a network server.  Creating and editing data on a local C drive works fine.
