TECHNICIAN I

The GIS Technician organizes and categorizes GIS information and creates and
maintains data layers.  The position designs and prepares projects to
support presentations, customers, applications and reporting needs.  The
Technician writes and maintains application development and end user GIS
system documentation.  The position assists in the collection, storage,
maintenance and dissemination of GPS data and may perform preliminary
analyses.  The Technician interprets and assesses data for accuracy and
completeness to support internal and external customer/project needs.  The
position helps to develop and communicates standards, methods, and quality
assurance/control processes and procedures.  The Technician uses, creates,
and maintains ArcGIS services and applications and provides first line
technical assistance and training.

 

The position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in GIS, Geography,
Computer Science, and Planning or closely related field or equivalent work
experience.  The successful candidate must have experience in GIS and be
able to train/mentor other staff using ArcGIS and data including
geodatabases.  The successful candidate should also have experience in data
management including data loading, database management, metadata, file
conversion and analysis.  The position requires good overall computer skills
using word processors, spreadsheets and database management and excellent
oral and written communications skills with the ability to work with minimum
direction.  The successful candidate should also be familiar with the
physical infrastructure of a water utility and have experience with
cartographic and graphic design, GPS and survey data.
