shrug-l: FLURISA Openings

I hope everyone on this list will consider getting involved in FLURISA.
Along time ago, I made the decision to get involved with URISA by first
becoming a member of the Georgia Chapter. I started attending meetings and
getting to know other GIS Professionals. I soon learned how much I did not
know and began building a network of professional friends. These friends
have helped expand my horizons and show me things I would have never dreamed
were possible with GIS. 

Soon I volunteered to run for the GA URISA board. That was the start of a
new chapter in my professional involvement. I severed on the GA URISA board
for a number of years in various positions including President. During this
time my network expanded as I made friends with other URISA Chapter Leaders
across the US and Canada. I also began to see a larger picture as I became
involved with URISA International, the mothership for all the local
chapters. I began to see the challenges we were facing at the national and
international level with things like data sharing, working with other
professions such as Land Surveyors, standardizing data structures,
developing best practices and more. That of course lead me to run for the
URISA board itself and ultimately to my current position as President Elect
for URISA.

Trust me being on a professional board is work but it is very rewarding both
professionally and personally. I have built a large network of friends which
I have come to rely on for advice, help and people to bounce ideas off of.
This is your chance to build and expand your network. It will have positive
impacts on your career that you cannot even begin to imagine.  So I
encourage everyone on this list to seriously consider volunteering for
FLURISA. If not FLURISA, the SHRUG or any other professional organization in
your area. You will not regret it.

Good Morning SHRUG,

Over the past few years, FLURISA has been growing in popularity and
expanding the services which are offered. This continued growth comes from
our committed and involved board of volunteers made up of GIS professionals
throughout the State of Florida.  FLURISA would like to announce a candidacy
period to the FLURISA membership for several positions on the FLURISA
executive board and regional director positions.

Positions which are currently available for FLURISA members on the executive
board include:

- Vice President - a two year term, which rotates into the president
position

- Treasurer

- Secretary

Executive board members must not only be members of FLURISA but must also be
members in good standing with the URISA national organization.
Participation on the board is eligible for GISP points.

In addition to the executive board positions, two regional director
positions are also vacant and open to candidates for consideration.  These
positions only require you to be a member in good standing with FLURISA.

Interested parties should send an email identifying themselves to the
FLURISA nominating committee nc at flurisa.org <mailto:nc at flurisa.org>  and the
position for which they would to be considered, along with a copy of the
individuals resume to the FLURISA nominating committee by January 20th, 2016
at 5pm ET.
