The success of any GIS program is largely tied to the capabilities of its leader. Strong leadership is necessary to establish a solid GIS program, operate efficiently and effectively, coordinate participants, adapt to change, and move a program forward. Leadership, however, is a skill that must be developed. The five-day URISA Leadership Academy was established to meet this need.

Presented since 2001, the conference is the only gathering of Caribbean GIS professionals for education, training and career development.   URISA is thrilled to be heading back to Barbados for the 2016 URISA Caribbean GIS Conference. Barbados was the site of our second conference in 2004. The conference is organized by a committee of Caribbean GIS experts, who dedicate considerable time and energy to developing an important educational program. The conference features an exhibition and a number of professional development and networking opportunities.

 

Presentation proposals are being solicited on topics ranging from national SDI implementation, capacity building and business intelligence to climate change challenges and use of UAVs for imagery collection.
