I think the glaciers he was referring to were some 10,000 to 100,000 years ago.  There are no glaciers in upper New York State these days, to the best of my knowledge (and I am a NE native, north Jersey, to be specific).  The land that was covered by these glaciers during the ice age is, in fact, still rebounding from the relief in pressure which causes the occasional small earthquake in the PA, NY, NJ and CT areas.

I didn’t realize any area of the CONUS has glaciers that thick.  Global climate change yielding glacial melting and sea level rise is being measured and experienced by all except right-wing politicians.  That any adult today believes humans can escape Scott-free (as it were) from the cultural addition of greenhouse gases amazes me.

One of the weirdest and most apocalyptic land changes I’ve read of (and heard about at Tab Benoit’s “Voice of the Wetlands”  Blues festival) is Southern Louisiana.  The Mississippi was channelized, so alluvial mud no longer renews the flood plain and delta.  Subsidence in the old alluvial soil combined with the mesh of canals dug by the oil companies is making Southern LA disappear.  I’ve forgotten the statistics,  but Tab Benoit’s childhood home south of Houma, LA is now in the Gulf under 30 feet of water miles offshore. That happened in less than 30 years. The entire town is gone  Canals become bayous, bayous become open Gulf and the salt marsh is vanishing.

The Gulf’s encroachment on LA is so fast the effects of global warming and sea level rise are not factored in yet. The barrier islands built over thousands of years are gone or exist as vestigial tidal sand bars fast becoming Gulf bottom.
Unlike the Everglades it has not become a cause célèbre and multi-billion dollar boondoggle.  Relatively few know or care about the disappearance of Southern Louisiana.  It’s people are poor, largely disenfranchised Cajuns and other minorities.  It’s effect on fisheries is already felt.

Was up in the Adirondacks with friends from Tallahassee these past few days. Learned that the glaciers up there were up to 2 miles thick. Lots of erosion, massive forces, and huge movements during the big melt.

I imagined every surveyor's pin on a separate "iceberg" floating around...

Plus, more movements to come with global warming melting current glaciers (at 600 Feet / Year), including some significant altitude changes over time.

Darn those tectonic plates.  It takes a lot of gall for a planet to mess with its human inhabitants. It's almost as if we are seen as transient residents in a longer-lived system ...

Greetings!
     Australia is moving along to the north at about 3 inches per year.  In the last 20 years it has reportedly move about 20 feet.  All the GPS readings on the continent are reportedly off a bit.
