We will be holding our next monthly FLHUG meeting on Wednesday, November 1st at 3pm EST (agenda attached).

We have two great presentation lined up for the call from Casey Zuzak with FEMA and Richard Halquist with Osceola County Emergency Management.

Hazus for Response Operations for Hurricane Irma (Casey Zuzak, FEMA)

In September 2017, Hurricane Irma made landfall twice in Florida, once as a Category 4 hurricane in the Keys and again as a Category 3 storm in Marco Island, making Irma the first major hurricane to make landfall in Florida since Hurricane Wilma in 2005.  Unlike other storms, hurricane force winds impacted a majority of the state from the Keys to the FL/GA border.  FEMA being modeling the impacts of the wind related losses for Irma using Hazus starting 72 hours before landfall though the dissipation of the storm.  Final estimates for wind loss estimates for Hurricane Irma range from $8-$14 Billion.  This presentation will cover our Hazus modeling for disaster operations timeline, initial results, and improvement for the future.



HAZUS, CRS & the Real Deal (Richard Halquist, Osceola County Emergency Management)
Let's take a quick look at CRS requirements and how HAZUS can help - including Section 630 - Dams. We will also look at substantiating HAZUS generated flood depth points after hurricane IRMA, a flood event that resulted in a substantial evacuation.
