BLM GIS Analyst Job Description



The GIS Analyst, under the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Oregon, will support the NEPA project and general ongoing government geodatabase management and editing of geospatial.



Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

·                     Provide support to IDTs for geospatial analysis and mapping, including but not limited to analyses, editing data, modeling, map production and creating reports.

·                     Edit, create and manage geospatial data management according to OR/WA BLM GIS standards.

·                     Work according to the priorities and direction as provided by the BLM project inspector.

·                     Complete mapping, statistical analyses and spatial database management in support of BLM projects.

·                     Work independently with staff, project and management to implement BLM spatial data standards, develop workflow processes and documentation.

·                     Participate in BLM-sponsored internal and public meetings, providing live GIS mapping sessions to facilitate public involvement.

·                     Create GIS-based cartographic products in support of public outreach and information.

·                     Editing and managing BLM’s GIS corporate layers in ESRITM Spatial Database Engine versioning environment.

·                     Manage geospatial metadata documentation to BLM standards for all new and derived GIS datasets.



Minimum Requirements:

·                     Understanding of the operation of BLM’s GIS and modeling software.

·                     Experience editing personal and corporate data in a versioning environment.

·                     Experience with spatial data in raster format, remote sensing and image analysis.

·                     Capability to read and interpret BLM Manuals, Standards, Direction, Guidance and Regulations to facilitate creating and managing GIS data to meet project requirements.

·                     Experience with coordinating with natural resource specialists/professionals and in providing one-on-one or group coordination, including training and presentations.

·                     ability to speak and think effectively with IDT members and the public on statistical and mapping subjects relevant to project completion, NEPA analyses and planning.

·                     Experience providing professional expertise in implementing data management processing support and documentation of spatial data management according to Bureau and Federal GIS standards.
