The answers to the questions are as follows:

1. We are no longer inspecting the nail salons. The amount of acetone =
they
use is very minute and does not justify the time spent on them. We, =
however,
are more concerned (believe it or not) about the disinfectants they are
using. They use gallons. The instructions on the bottles indicate they =
must
be rinsed three times and disposed of properly. I wonder what that =
means.
Just a thought.

2. We are very stringent when it comes to the tanning salons for they
generate hundreds of light bulbs annually. This is no no in Pasco =
because we
have a Resource Recovery Facility. You will be amazed how many light =
bulbs
they generate.

3. We inspect large and small retailers that generate light bulbs. So =
these
are also included in our daily inspections.

Farouk

I recall that you targeted salons a number of years ago. Any comments?

I figured we'd see more comments on this one by now.

Here in Seminole County we have not added nail salons to our database =
and
have not been inspecting them. Quite frankly, we have more facilities =
than
we can keep up with already. Our perception has been that the acetone =
on
the wipers dries and can go in the trash. However, Kelly brings up a
different perspective regarding the waste liquid acetone from the bowls.
It is certainly food for thought.

As far as the fluorescent lights from the tanning salons go, we have not
looked at them either. Chris brings up a good point as to how many =
spent
tubes these facilities generate. On the other hand, most large retail
stores generate several hundred spent tubes a year. I don't think we =
want
to get into inspecting facilities that only generate fluorescent tubes.
That being said, there are certainly some large retail facilities that
generate a lot of other hazardous wastes - much of it from damaged goods
and customer returns.
