on School Chemical Management. Dave Waddell with Waddell Environmental =
LLC in
Seattle, Washington will be conducting a 4 hour School Science Lab =
Auditor
Training on Friday, November 4 at the DEP Central District Office in =
Orlando.
The training is offered to all County SQG, HHW Program Coordinators and =
DEP
staff.

This session provides attendees with training on these topics:
* Assessing chemical mismanagement issues and safety hazards in school
laboratories.
* Identifying and managing potentially explosive chemicals and some of
the currently used options for deactivating them in the U.S.
* Barriers to changing improper behaviors, improving environmental
compliance and incorporating pollution prevention practices in schools.
* Tools and techniques to overcome those barriers.
* Copies of alternative labs that use fewer chemicals and less
hazardous ones.
* Training in organizing chemical stockrooms to improve storage and
disposal practices.
* Developing and implementing school lab cleanout programs.
* Methods to prioritize which chemicals should be removed first.
* Design and components of teacher trainings to improve environmental
practices.
* Hands-on and video-based instruction in small scale chemistry
demonstrating less-hazardous methods of teaching chemistry.
Attendees will be trained in use of an extensive table of commonly found
laboratory chemicals, their hazards and recommended storage locations =
for
them.
Classes limited to registered persons on a first come first serve basis. =
36
persons per session. There will be a morning and afternoon session.
