HHW and SQG Workshop Attendees:

OVERVIEW

We trust everyone has settled back in after a busy week at the HHW/SQG
Workshop in Sarasota. Much was accomplished last week including:

    * forming a Florida NAHMMA chapter (see attached summary of the session
discussion),
    * touring Sarasota County and Charlotte County HHW facilities,
    * discussing SQG case studies and new HHW facility designs,
    * receiving updates on Used Oil, CESQG waste acceptance, P2, Operation
Cleansweep, Pretreatment Program, E-waste, Pharmaceuticals, School Labs, and

    * completing New Inspectors, SQG and HHW Databases, HHW Unknowns, School
Lab Cleanout, and HAZWOPER training classes.

We hope each of you were able to take home tips, information, and new
contacts that will help your programs become more efficient and effective.

HOSTS & PLANNING COMMITTEE

A gracious thank you to Sarasota County for hosting this year's workshop.
Lois Rose, Brian Usher, Larry Cardinal, Oland Stokes, Alison Eggleston and
Jerry Palmer worked tirelessly to help choose the hotel, provide buses for
the tours, hand-out free laptop bags, work the registration desk, and
organize great evening activities (we loved the Hazardous Waste Olympics!).
Other counties also stepped up to the plate too.

Cari Walz of Manatee County and Deb Bush of Pinellas County scooped ice cream
from the Pinellas County HHW mobile vehicle. Debbie Fore and the Lake County
crew provided water and soda from the back of their HHW mobile vehicle. Al
Gomez of Broward Co., Jim Reece of Okaloosa Co., Carmen Waters (lovely wife
of Tom Waters, Seminole Co,), Edie Weigle of Charlotte Co., and Catherine
Eichner of Hillsborough Co. staffed the registration table. Peter Mitchell of
Manatee Co. organized the Eco-tour to Myakka State Park. Andrea Stermer of
Orange Co. and Tom Waters of Seminole Co. presented and moderated many of the
sessions and trainings. A big THANKS to all these folks who helped on the
workshop planning committee!

PRESENTATIONS & PHOTOS

Thank you to the presenters, trainers, and moderators... without you, there
wouldn't be a workshop! If you haven't already, please upload your
presentations to our public ftp site
(ftp.dep.state.fl.us/pub/incoming/SQGWorkshop/. Anyone who took photos of the
tours, trainings, presentations or optional evening activities, please upload
your photos to our public ftp site
(ftp.dep.state.fl.us/pub/incoming/SQGWorkshop/Photos/). If you have any
trouble uploading please contact us or snail mail a CD-Rom with your
presentations/photos.

Attendees may review and download presentations and photos at
ftp.dep.state.fl.us/2006HHWSQGWorkshop/.

FL NAHMMA CHAPTER

During Wednesday morning's HHW/SQG session, some attendees signed a petition
to form a Florida North American Hazardous Materials Management Association
(www.NAHMMA.org <http://www.nahmma.org/> ) Chapter. The new chapter could act
as the host for upcoming workshops, conduct periodic trainings, participate
in national and state legislative initiatives, or whatever else its members
would like to do. For more information about this new chapter or to help plan
our next workshop, please join us on a conference call Tuesday, June 15,
9:30-11:00 am. The call-in number is (850) 414-1708. No pass code is needed.

NEXT YEAR

Jim Reece of Okaloosa County has graciously offered to co-host next year's
workshop. Fort Walton Beach is located in panhandle and has some of the most
beautiful beaches in Florida. Okaloosa County has one of the most extensive
HHW programs in the state providing HHW/CESQG collection services to 10
surrounding counties. Okaloosa County is also home Eglin Air Force base, the
largest air force base in the world, which will make a very interesting SQG
tour.

So, pencil in your calendars for April 30-May 4, 2007. Also, make sure to
include travel costs (plane flight or vehicle mileage), lodging
(~$115/night), and a workshop registration fee (~$150) in your annual budget.

THANK YOU!

Thank you once again for attending last week's workshop and for helping make
it a success!
