New Tool: Green chemical purchases: wizard launched by MIT (Massachusetts
Institute of Technology) <http://www.p2ric.org/EnvNews/NewsItem.cfm?Id=2545>
(08/22/2006)
The Green Chemical Alternatives Wizard is a web-based tool funded and
designed by EPA and MIT that provides information on chemical alternatives to
hazardous solvents and substances commonly used in research laboratories. The
Green Chemical Alternatives Purchasing Wizard provides hundreds of journal
references and case studies that detail alternative chemicals and/or
processes available for hazardous solvents, reagents, and cleaning agents.

New Tool: Training video for new Hazardous Waste Manifest (www.pneac.org)
<http://www.p2ric.org/EnvNews/NewsItem.cfm?Id=2547> (08/22/2006)
Not sure how to complete the new Hazardous Waste Manifest Form required after
September 5? A new Flash video training
<http://www.pneac.org/hazwastemanifest/manifest_video/manifest.html> from the
Printer's National Environmental Assistance Center answers that question. The
video introduces the new form, shows the differences between the new and old
forms, and provides users with specific instructions for completing it.

(Grants.gov) <http://www.p2ric.org/EnvNews/NewsItem.cfm?Id=2546> (08/22/2006)

The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced an upcoming opportunity for
small businesses (500 employees or less) to submit grant applications in
response to its annual Phase I Funding Opportunity Announcement for the Small
Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer
(STTR) programs. Approximately $38 Million will be reserved for the Phase I
competition, which will result in approximately 380 Phase I awards in amounts
up to $100,000 each. Technical areas in which applications are sought
include, but are not limited to, carbon cycle measurements of the atmosphere
and the biosphere, wind energy reliability and cost reduction, solar energy,
hydrogen delivery and production, hybrid electric vehicles with a special
focus on plug-in hybrids, cellulosic biomass to high-value products, and
alternative feedstocks to chemicals. The Funding Opportunity Announcement
will be published at Grants.gov
<http://www.grants.gov/search/search.do?oppId=10660&mode=VIEW> on or near
September 15, 2006.
